Biography[]

Background information[]

Louise Ellison, a strong-willed reporter for The New-York Tribune, is dispatched to Hell on Wheels by editor Horace Greeley to cover the building of the transcontinental railroad. Her career came to a halt when it was discovered she had romantic feelings for Ida Greeley, editor's daughter.

Struggling to come to terms with her "excommunication" from New York, she learns that "right" and "wrong" are concepts too simple to apply to the world of Hell on Wheels -- the Sodom and Gomorrah of the Nebraska plains.[1]

Season 3[]

Louise becomes an unwitting pawn in Thomas Durant's plan to drive Cullen Bohannon from the Union Pacific Railroad, writing an article about Bohannon's past and testifying for the board of Crédit Mobilier. She is surprised that Bohannon does not hold this against her. She is even more surprised when he kisses her, though he dismisses it as a drunken act. ("One Less Mule")
