Hell on Wheels was created by Joe and Tony Gayton. The Gaytons, Jeremy Gold, John Shiban, and David Von Ancken serve as the series executive producers. Paul Kurta, Chad Oakes, and Michael Frislev are producers, while Jordan Feiner and Keri Young are associate producers.

Ruth tells Sean McGinnes they cannot be together due to each one's religion.

Elam Ferguson decides not to kill Lily Bell after she offers him a security chief position when she and Cullen Bohannon take over the railroad after Thomas Durant's embezzlement is made known. Hannah Durant tends to a badly burned Thor Gundersen, who explains that the Sioux turned on him and they will attack the town the next day. Sean McGinnes converts his religion and is baptized, only to be shunned by Ruth.
